Dance
Pre-K Fundamentals
Consists of 20 minutes each of Ballet, Tap, and Tumbling. We start teaching the very basics, building a strong base for the students to build on. The children will gain coordination and balance and basic skills like hopping and jumping. We also focus on following directions and sequential memory.
Kinder Dance Fundamentals
Builds on Pre-K Fundamentals. Beginning dance steps and combinations are brought into the classroom to advance and challenge the students.
Jazz/Acro 1
This class consists of 30 minutes each of Jazz and Acro. Jazz at this age includes some hip hop fundamentals. This class solidifies the very base of each dance form so when the students start hour long classes, we can work on building their vocabulary of steps.
Ballet
A classical dance form characterized by grace and precision of movement and by elaborate formal gestures, steps, and poses. Much of the focus will be on strength and flexibility.
Ballet allows each dancer to have a strong base in technique, strength, and flexibility so we highly recommend that every dancer take ballet, it will improve every discipline of dance. We employ the method of Cecchetti ballet at our studio.
Tap
Focuses on rhythm, musicality, and fast footwork, tap is a specialty at our studio. Josephine studied advanced tap under Sarah Savelli, a very accomplished, well respected, professional tap dancer. The footwork that is taught in this class helps the budding athlete work on his/her footwork that would help them advance in any sport.
Jazz
Jazz dancing is a form of dance that showcases a dancer’s individual style and originality. It is done to up-beat music and focuses on one’s personal style and attitude. This is a chance for each dancer to really work on their unique creative qualities, letting the creative-self blossom.
Pointe
Part of classical ballet technique made possible by specially reinforced shoes called pointe shoes or toe shoes. The technique developed from the desire for dancers to appear weightless and has evolved to enable dancers to dance on the tips of their toes for extended periods of time.
Pointe is the advanced level that all of our ballet students are striving for. Guidance from Josephine will be necessary and a recommendation from her will be required to start this class.
Lyrical
Lyrical dance is a style of dance created from the fusion of ballet with jazz and contemporary dance techniques. Lyrical dancing is performed to music with lyrics to inspire movements to express strong emotions the choreographer feels from the lyrics in the chosen song.
Hip Hop
Is a social or choreographed dance style, primarily danced to modern music and evolves according to the culture of the time. Focusing on style and is a collaboration of breaking, locking, popping, and fad-dances. This is truly a fun and dynamic class suitable for all ages.
Contemporary
An expressive dance style that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary style involves connecting the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.
Kung Fu
Kung Fu
Classes in Kung Fu focus on fluid movements with sophisticated footwork, lightning fast movement, and reflex and reaction drills. Coordination and balance with acute accuracy exercises combined with inner strength and power make for a complete self defense system that strengthens students’ self-esteem, focus and concentration. Preparing the student for both athletics and academics, giving the student a perfect base to start into the world is the goal.
Adult classes focus on practical self-defense movements that can be practiced all day long, anywhere, allowing the student to advance quickly without the hours and hours necessary for most forms of martial arts.
The lessons are taught by Guy B. Savelli, son of renowned world famous Master Guy L. Savelli, Red Sash Kun-Tao Kung Fu and can be traced though Master Willam Reeders, holder of the two golden Tai Chu’s (China’s greatest honor) all the way back to Tai – Chi Master Liu Sheong (who the show Kung-Fu was based on.)
